Notes of Hope: Children and Family Programs
Since September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we wanted to take this time to highlight our children and families’ programs that we offer here at Cancer Support Community. We understand that facing cancer brings many challenges, especially when you have children to care for. That’s why we’re dedicated to offering the support you need through our various programs. These programs provide emotional support, educational resources, promote a healthy lifestyle, and help you build social connections within the cancer community.
We’re here to help you and your family navigate this journey together.
We have recurring programs and services to provide support such as individual and family counseling and Sandtray Play. Offered bi-weekly, our Sandtray Play gives children and teens a gentle and secure space to explore their feelings through the use of play and storytelling. We use sensory play and sand tray therapy to help them process the emotions and experiences associated with the cancer diagnosis.
Additionally, we offer different programming each month for our youth and families. Some of our past programs have included Game night, Garden Upcycling, Drumming workshop, Storytime, Summer Family Picnic, and a Self-portrait art project. Our next monthly program is Mindfulness is for Me! This is a weekly series for September in which kids and families will learn what mindfulness is, the benefits of mindfulness, and different mindfulness techniques to use to help them navigate both school and life more effectively. Also upcoming, we will offer various social gatherings for families to connect with each other during the holiday seasons.
We would love to see you and your family participate in our programs, so be sure to keep your eye on the calendar and register. If you have any questions, please contact me, Dawn Nycz the Child, Teen, & Family Program Coordinator at [email protected] or 610-861-7555.
